If the machine goes down unexpectedly (power failure or something),
it stays frozen until I can get to it and reboot with the extra USB
drive disconnected.

So is there any word from Soekris? It seems like the simple workaround
of "if the disk is too big, then ignore it" would not be too hard to
implement. Or is the problem more subtle?

As most know, USB is a set of complex protocols and sometimes something don't work, it's not like there are any specific limitations. The priority is to support the internal USB connector to be used for flash for permanent booting and otherwise the external USB connector to install from.

The USB code is something we licensed, we do have the source (in x86 assembler) and will work to improve it, but it's currently not highest priority. And as a small company we just can't purchase all kind of hardware to test with.

We just added some manpower and will work to make a list of things known and not known to work.
