If I understood correctly you can bake into a clip the idle animation, which will be separate from the animation that already exist, then remove the animation and the idle will still be there. Then you can ( it should be possible ) copy the idle pose from one clip to another, or just interpolate the trwo clips by keying them, so that it will override the previous idle animation and will blend with the existing one
