A planned french DCC from the makers of Guerilla renderer

Posted on SiCommunity by Nnois, and below is a tweaked (MS)translation.

Sounds a bit like  Akeytsu, but hope it is also planned to be a more complete DCC solution, as opposed to an exclusively animation oriented application.

Cheers!

Presented at the RADI 2015 (meetings Animation development Innovation) in Angoulême,
Collodi developed by TeamTO, Mercenaries Engineering (guerrilla Render) and Inria (with the support of Imaginove and CapDigital),
is part of this new generation of software that should have an impact on productivity directly aimed at animators.

"Animation represents two-thirds of human resources on a series,
claims Jean-Baptiste Spieser, Director technical at TeamTO.
and a generalist 3D software like Maya often proves to be counter-productive due to it's complexity.
It's over-technical aspect and lack of intuitive operation can also discourage artists coming from the 2d Animation field."

For Cyril Corvazier, Manager of Mercenaries Engineering, performance of the generalist software are also less and less in tune with the growing complexity of the scenes.

Based on a dynamics engine made by Inria, Collodi means to bring new methods of animation, offering tools for fast and intuitive posing , as well as powerful and innovative deformers, custom rigs and a timeline that the artist can scrub in real time without having to recalculate the scene, and regardless of the number of characters.

Written largely in Python, Collodi, including beta versions will be made available to schools, will be tested in production at TeamTO in the summer 2016 on the next season of  "Angelo la débrouille" (France3).

The commercialization of 3D animation available under Linux and Windows software is planned for 2017.

The software has been funded by FUI 15 (Single Interministerial Fund) the same way as Dynam'it, the software which has made dynamics more accessible to artists.
Dynam'it
has been developed by TeamTO, artifacts Studio and Inria, and used by TeamTO in the feature film "Gus" to accelerate the creation of complex 3D animations.
