That's strange...
I tested this myself now and it's not like that for me.
If a frame takes more than 5s to simulate, the screens goes black after 5s
and only the ICE Pause button is showed. When the frame is done it updates
the viewport and I can see the new frame for 5s until it goes black on the
next frame again, and so on.
What GPU and OS do you run?
I'm on Quadro K4000 on Windows 10
