We have SunBlade 100's in our office, running Solaris 8.

Yesterday afternoon, one of our dataports died. The computer that was hooked up to it croaked as well, and at first we assumed the computer itself was at fault (I didn't assume this, our regular Windows guy assumed this). While the first machine was up to have its OS rebuilt (is this overkill?) we tried another SunBlade in the same dataport. Again, the machine hangs when trying to reboot. It gets as far as trying to set up the IPv4 multicast interface before freezing.

Does this make sense? Shouldn't the computer continue to boot even if it can't establish a network connection?
