Just be careful with top.  It's a util developed for Linux and not Solaris.

Use prstat to see the Processes and CPU load.

Use vmstat 2 2
(the second line will indicate the free memory now ... first line as mentioned list since reboot)

Also use other commands:
iostat (internal disks only)
netstat (network info)
mpstat (nice if you are running multiple CPUs)
and last, but not the least, sar.

man pages will tell you what is what in the output.

Subject: Re: [Solaris-Users] How to get free memory info

Hi

Top gives you this information, but you need to install top package WLtop. This will be available in companion CD or you need to download from sunfreeware.com.

Hi all...

I am quite new to Solaris (8). I would like to know if there is a
command in Solaris like "free" in Linux, a command that shows the "real"
memory and swap memory usage.

I see that vmstat is available, but I am not sure on how to read the
output, I mean, in some Web I read that shows statistics about memory
since the last boot. I also read that "vmstat n" shows info in n seconds
intervals.

Actually I just need some "accurate" free mem info to setup a Nagios
alert in case of low memory status. What command shoud I use?

Thanks a lot...
