[Solaris-Users] Getting Perl to work

I've installed Perl 5.8.0 (from sunfreesoftware.com) but I'm having some 
trouble getting it working properly, and I have it installed in 
/usr/local/bin/perl.  More specifically, the CPAN module  won't install 
new modules; each time I try, I get an error message reading,

t/solaris-ufs....An error occured.  statvfs failed.  Did you run h2ph?

...which causes make to bomb, which means I can't install the module I need.

I'm stuck.  Any ideas?
