Avocent, for instance, the ones I know, have capabilities to "extend" the cord up to a remote location, either using serial, ethernet, optic-fiber (up to 800meters), or a LAN. Check their website for Longview and the DSR switches.

You can check also www.avocent.com, which made kvm for windows, sun, and other custom boxes. Check if the server came with ALOM. Info about ALOM can be find in the following URL: http://www.sun.com/servers/alom.html Otherwise, you will need a terminal/console server as pointed out by previous reply. I have a question I hope someone may be able to answer. We are looking for something that will give us the ability to log into the ok prompt of a remote server. We will be moving some of our servers twenty miles a way and are looking to a method to log into the ok prompt after a boot (crash or intentional) and restart the computer without having to drive to the site. It would also be helpful if the method was secure as well.
