Some updates, just to tell that I haven't abandoned the issue: I've evaluated the possibility to do a sort of "interface" switch within the whole application (in this way all the singing exercise can benefit from the singing interface). This approach revealed to be quite a drastic change so I'm moving to the other option: implement the singing interface in a separate exercise. It's easier and it will touch much less code (there's some duplication that can be removed with a common base class as you pointed out).
