Grant, I am really excited that you are looking at this patch!
While I am proud of it, and very proud of the number of organizations that have
used it, and the people who have improved it (Thanks Chris!); it was just
written to scratch an itch, and feel free to rip it apart to come up with a
better solution for Solr. The ability for Solr to injest more formats I think
is key aspect, not how this patch works.
