So you would change the default behavior on every one of us already
using this software? Bad idea from a usability standpoint.
Additionally, every MPD client I've tried recently uses double
click/press enter to queue, not to start playing.

I'd suggest adding your action to the context menu as 'Add and Play'
or something, and maybe working on putting a message in a status bar
or something saying "X song(s) added to playlist" if the behavior
wasn't clear, rather than change the quite expected behavior for MPD
old-timers.
