Hi Patrick, thank you for patience. I tried the way via distro-update. no chance. With ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates I did not find any nvidia-current package
Here: http://gamblis.com/2010/07/03/install-nvidia-256-35-display-drivers-in-ubuntu/ they give different sources for karmic. I tried those but it didn't work due to some contradictions. But I finally managed to install it. I used janitor for download. Then I installed the nvidia drivers by just running the downloaded script. Afterwards I run janitor again, which accepted my driver and did the rest. However, the driver seems to be buggy. Every other minute the screen becomes black for a tiny moment. But the rest works fine. Also the new Bios. Thanks again for the help cheers, André 2010/8/6 Patrick Valdellon <[email protected]> > Hi André, > > As I told you before, you don't have to rely on the janitor for the > nvidia-installation. > The following left me with working nvidia-card: > > sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates > sudo apt-get update > sudo apt-get dist-upgrade > sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-current-modaliases > nvidia-settings > > Run the janitor script afterwards, and it will detect the installed > driver, and you can just opt to not change the installation and finish > the script properly. > > br, > Patrick > > 2010/8/6 André Bergner <[email protected]>: > > Hi > > > > I'm trying to update my Nvidia drivers from the 195-version to the new > > 256-version with the janitor-script. > > The script was running fine up the point where it wants to install the > > nvidia-driver. download worked fine but then I get the error message > > mkdir: cannot create directory > > `/usr/share/sony-laptop/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-256.44.run/': File exists > > > > The script is trying to create a directory with the same name as the file > it > > just downloaded.
