It makes it easier when comparing ids with drivers in other OS which are usually sorted that way, and generally reduces the risk of duplicate entries (admittedly there are few enough in athn(4) at the moment that they would be fairly easy to notice, but we have had duplicates before when they have been listed out of alphanumerical order).
