RUMBEK, 05 November 2011 (Gurtong) – The Rumbek Central Prisons Primary Health Care Centre (RCPPHCC) will cater for inmates in the state’s eight counties. The facility has been funded by the United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The facility was officially opened by the Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay and attended by top state government officials and NGOs operating in the state. The Medical Director of Rumbek Central Prisons Services Captain Wecnyin Domkoc Malual told the press that the facility is still facing numerous challenges that impeded on service delivery. “Our health facility cannot accommodate the growing number of clients owing to the poor state of infrastructure. We have a big challenge especially with regards to electric power supply. We do not have an ambulance as well as computers to boost our operations”, said Malual. He added the facility seeks to become the state referral medical centre. The UNMISS Correctional Advisor Enock Mogaka affirmed UN’s support to prisons. The Rumbek Central Prisons Primary Health Care Centre is the first primary health care unit to be opened in Rumbek since the attainment of South Sudan’s independence.
