At least 200 South Sudanese Students in Kampala International
University (KIU) have had their academic papers confiscated for paying
tuition fees as Ugandan nationals.

South Sudan's Educational attaché to Uganda Lual Akol, confirmed
receiving such complaints from students.

"I am aware of these cases. I contacted the KIU authorities and they
are still looking for a mechanism of how to handle that," said Akol.

One affected student Milton Milla on Wednesday told Radio Miraya that
some of them were permitted and have evidence that they could pay the
school fees as Ugandans.

Milla however says KIU rejects their evidence, saying the students
have scholarships from the government of South Sudan.

Akol expressed confidence that a compromise would be reached among the
affected parties.

"Each individual has filled that form as a Ugandan; we here also say
they are our South Sudanese students. So it's the three groups, the
university, the embassy and the individual students to reach a
compromise on that".

Nevertheless, the KIU Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Hyuha Makwanason
said the university will not involve the South Sudanese Embassy, but
deal with on individual basis.
