The Association of the Private Universities on Monday handed a memo to
the office of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, urging him to revoke the
closure of their universities.

The memo called on the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and
Technology to refrain from using what they refer to as "insulting
language" while dealing with private universities and higher
institutions of learning.

Speaking to Radio Miraya, the Chairman of the Association, Godson
Reuben Ladu denied the claim that the students of the private
universities are unqualified.

"The team went and we saw them the papers, including certificates.
Joining high education learning of modern character is not like what
happened.

"We don't stick back to the traditional process of joining high
education after going to P8 then secondary school. In modern world,
there are packages that can make one join high learning institution,"
Ladu argued.

Ladu called on the government to create awareness to the public about
the significance of the private universities to the development of the
country.

Last Friday, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and
Technology, Peter Adwok, ordered the closure of 22 private
universities operating in the country for not meeting minimum
standards.
