President Salva Kiir has cautioned religious groups not to use their
beliefs to promote their political ambitions.

The President made the call while meeting with Muslims and Christians
at an annual Ramadan dinner at Freedom Hall in Juba.

President Kiir said the country should remain united and not divide
itself on any basis.

During the dinner, the President also reassured the Muslims that their
first pilgrimage to Mecca under an Independent South Sudan will be
directly from Juba to Saudi Arabia.

The dinner was attended by representatives from the Christian and
Muslim fraternities as well as government officials.

Speaking at the function, Secretary General of the South Sudan Islamic
Council, Al-Tahir Biar, called on Muslims and Christians to work
together with local leaders to support the development of the new
nation.
