UN to conduct salary survey in South Sudan
Thursday, 16 August 2012 08:43 Muna Tesfai South Sudan >>> . The Secretary-General's Special Representative to South Sudan, Hilde F. Johnson, told a meeting of United Nations national staff today that the UN will conduct an assessment of salaries in an effort to address the demand to be paid in dollars. She was responding to a peaceful demonstration on Monday by national staff from a number of UN agencies in South Sudan. They want their salaries to be paid in US dollars due to the high cost of living and inflation. Johnson said today the survey will compare the pay of national staff members in UN agencies, with local staff in other organizations operating in South Sudan. Speaking on Radio Miraya, Johnson said the matter of dollar payment has been an ongoing discussion with the UN headquarters in New York. National staff representatives also demanded the termination of employment of non-South Sudanese working on local staff contracts. Johnson said the UN Mission is waiting for the registration of nationals in South Sudan to be completed before they can review the matter. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
