MALAKAL, 15 April 2013 [Gurtong] - The State Assistant Deputy Director
of Examination Philip Arop Laa has said that the students were briefed
on instructions as they prepare themselves for the examination which
they will sit for starting 22nd of April since it is their first time
to sit for South Sudan National Examination.

Upper Nile State had been using the Sudan Certificate of Examination
from Khartoum.

The briefing of candidates was done in various school centres where
the students were advised on the examination criteria by head
teachers.

They said no candidate will be allowed to leave the examination room
before the stipulated time.

“The students were advised on the issues of malpractices during
examination, they were told not to give or obtain unfair assistance
whether by copying or any other way,” he said.

Students were told to bear in mind that any candidate who commits an
examination irregularity will have the result for the whole
examination paper cancelled.

He added that if there is any evidence of wide spread irregularities
among students, the whole results for the centre will be cancelled.

All the candidates should not come with the unregistered candidate to
come and sit on behalf as they will be handled and treated as
criminals.

The students were told not to share materials such as pen, rulers,
mathematic sets and tables during the examination and so every student
had to come with their materials ready.

The students were briefed on writing of names, school and index
numbers correctly as used in the registry form.

Students were told to arrive 15 minutes earlier to the examination
room and reminded that anybody who comes beyond the stipulated time
will not be allowed to sit for the examination.

“Be in the examination room 30 minutes before the examination starting
time,” said the head teacher of Good Shepherd Secondary School.

He said that there should be no communication whatsoever in whatever
manner between candidates or with outsiders especially parents during
the examination time.

Students were briefed on the use of mobile phones and programmable
calculators not to be allowed to the examination or around the
examination premises.

“If an examination paper for which you are not registered is handled
to you, or if a question indicated that a map or other material should
be given to you and you are not given any, inform the invigilators,”
said the head teacher.
