BOR, 17 May 2013 [Gurtong] –He said is the Yau Yau war is a
psychological one since he doesn’t have battalions to fight the
professional South Sudanese Army (SPLA).

“The warning of Yau Yau regarding his plan to attack Bor and Block
Juba-Bor road is a psychological warfare. Yau Yau has no capacity, he
doesn’t have battalions. I have been informed that he came from Sudan
in April with a force of 37 people,” Kuol said.

Manyang said that the rebels have been receiving supplies by air from
Khartoum government.

“They have been given ammunitions and some arms but I don’t think they
were in big quantity that could make him mobilize a force. The
ammunitions he receives could not be enough to make him conduct the
operations for long,” the governor said.

He said the air drops of ammunitions and arms have attracted many
youth to join him (Yau Yau) to raid cattle from the neighboring
communities in Pibor County.

“The youth were in need of ammunitions in order for them to go for
their business of cattle raiding. They joined in big numbers because
they wanted the ammunitions and he diverted them to attack the SPLA
forces that were patrolling the area,” he said.

He said that they were deceived to attack SPLA and killed them to
encourage their suppliers to give them more ammunition.

Kuol said that the SPLA forces just saw the youth as civilians in
their own villages as they were mobilized to remain as civilians. The
governor however said not all the Murle people have joined the Yau-Yau
rebels.
