Rumbek Prison Escapee Shot And Wounded
South Sudan Prison Service wardens have shot and wounded a prisoner who had last month escaped from the Lakes state main correctional service. 17 May 2013 By Gabriel Mayom JUBA, 17 May 2013 (Gurtong) - Residents said they heard gunshots inside Malual-kodi residential area when prison warden were pursuing the suspect accused of murder. Maciec Maker Yomdit, suspected for alleged of murder cases had escaped from Rumbek Central correctional prison services last month after prison services warden failed to secure prison facilities. Senior security officials they discovered the suspect and how the shot him when they launched an operation to recapture him. “We have captured Maker today in Malual-kodi after we obtained information of his present in town. Our forces stopped him but his attempt to run away but during the process his was shot at his neck by our warden guard,” said officer who requested anonymity. He added that Maker is under restricted security observation in hospital bed at Lakes state hospital being admitted with gunshot wounds. Lakes state correctional prison services had several record of inmate escaping away from prison whereby officials are allegedly cooperating to let inmates escape. This is the first time guards in Rumbek made a face to face confrontation with inmates who had escaped.
