Cabinet Resolves Termination Of Foreign Employees Contracts
The National Council of Ministers on Friday reached a resolution that terminates all contracts of foreign employees in the Public Service after the move was presented by the Minister of Justice John Luk Jok. 19 May 2013 By Waakhe Simon Wudu JUBA, 19 May 2013 [Gurtong] - South Sudan government’s Spokesperson Dr. Barnaba Marial told journalists right after the sitting that, the decision was reached based on the South Sudan laws. “The status of foreign nationals working in South Sudan Public Service is terminated,” Marial said. The move is expected to take effect in the next three months. He said the employees after termination will receive their post service benefits. Marial however, pointed out that, foreigners who have stayed for long in the country have got option to apply for residential permit according to the South Sudan’s laws. South Sudan following the formation of its government in 2005 just after decades of civil war has lacked skilled laborers both in the public and private sector, a situation that compelled her to employ even foreigners in its government institutions. Though Marial did not outline that the move was as part of creating space for unemployed South Sudanese, it serves as one of the government’s effort in creating space for unemployed but skilled South Sudanese nationals following outcry by many.
