Some foreign teachers who were employed in Kajo-Keji, Yei River State, with
the aim of improving performance, say they are leaving the country due to
low pay.

Most of them were from Uganda. One of the teachers, Elizabeth Iraya, says
she is paid 600 pounds at a private school.

With the devaluation of the pound, Ms Iraya says this money is not enough
to cater for the needs of her children in Uganda.

“It is really very hard for us as foreigners,” she said. “We are now
planning to go back to our places.”

It’s unclear how many foreigners were employed in the county, but Ms Iraya
says 400 of them have already left.

County officials are yet to comment on this issue.
