Gok community withdraws confidence from state governor JUBA (19 Feb.) Members of the Gok community in South Sudan's capital, Juba have withdrawn their confidence from the Governor of Gok state, Madhang Majok Meen over charges of undermining the rule of law and mismanagement in the state. The decision was reached at a meeting held at the residence of Daniel Awet Akot, the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs.In a letter obtained by Radio Tamazuj bearing the signature of the the Acting Chairperson of the Gok Community Association in Juba , Deng Mador Koch and his Secretary General, Deng Mayom Manyang, representatives of the community in Juba decided to withdraw their confidence from the government of Madhang Majok, and recommended his removal from the position by President Salva Kiir. The community members, according to the letter addressed to President Kiir on Tuesday, cited lack of accountability and transparency in the state, while accusing the governor of undermining the rule of law by encouraging extrajudicial killings in the state.The group alleged that at least three members of the community were executed publicly in February and April 2016, pursuant to Meen's orders without following legal procedures. “The community believes that the continuation of Hon. Madhang Majok as governor will mean nothing, but a total failure. His self-conduct and antagonistic approach to citizens is already creating more confusion and conflict among the state citizens, “ the community wrote.The Gok community reaffirmed its support to President Kiir and his administration. The group claimed that the decision taken was a voice to the voiceless in the state.
