That's what I get for not double-checking before I put my foot in my mouth. S=inet:[EMAIL PROTECTED] is right.

It looks like you've got a 10-second timeout, and it's taking longer than that. Are you doing RBL checks? If so, you may be timing out on ORBS, which recently went offline.

I was seeing a similar problem until I added:

score RCVD_IN_ORBS 0

to my local config.

You did help me notice a mistake I did make. I changed
to sendmail.mc to: "S=inet:[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and don't
get any startup errors anymore. But now get the
following in the logs when a message is received:

Jun 7 21:30:24 homer spamd[47769]: connection from
localhost.spacelynx.com [127.0.0.1] at port 1339

"S=unix:[EMAIL PROTECTED]" doesn't really make much
sense for a socket name. You probably want
"S=localhost:12000"

I seem to have everything configured properly but I
think I'm missing a small step somewhere in
starting/running spamassassin.

The process seems to be running but sendmail either
doesn't like it or doesn't see it. However, when I

run

the sample.pl against sendmail.cf it test fine.

Below

are the steps I've taken to verify/error check

myself.

Any help would be great thanks.

Sendmail: 8.12.9v
Milter: 0.18v
Spamassassin: 2.55

sendmail.mc: define(`_FFR_MILTER', `1')dnl INPUT_MAIL_FILTER(`spamassassin', `S=unix:[EMAIL PROTECTED]')dnl

I start spamd as root: (/usr/local/bin/spamd -x -d

-u

spamass -p 12000)

check the spamd process:
spamass 47769 90.1 26.8 16992 16384 ?? Ss

7:53PM

0:05.89 /usr/local/bin/spamd -x -d -u spamass -p
12000 (perl)

netstat for for a lister:
tcp4 0 0 localhost.12000 *.*

LISTEN

(wait 2 minutes)

Starting sendmail (/usr/sbin/sendmail -bd -q30m)

and I

get an error:
WARNING: Xspamassassin: local socket name
[EMAIL PROTECTED] missing

tail sendmail.log:
Jun 7 19:53:23 homer spamd[47769]: server started

on

port 12000 (running version 2.55)
Jun 7 19:55:33 homer sendmail[47778]: starting

daemon

(8.12.9): [EMAIL PROTECTED]:30:00

tail sendmail.log again with inbound message:
Jun 7 20:11:07 homer sendmail[47846]:

h580B7qT047846:

Milter (spamassassin): local socket name
[EMAIL PROTECTED] unsafe
Jun 7 20:11:07 homer sendmail[47846]:

h580B7qT047846:

Milter (spamassassin): to error state
(message is then handled normally)
