Before disabling auto_whitslist completely, you might like to apply the most recent patch to fix Bug 2734, see http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2734. I had been tracking down a similar problem, where spam and viruses forged as if they came from "me" were getting an inappropriate AWL weighting. This patch, in combination with setting the "trusted_networks" config item, seems to have fixed it for me.
