Would reinstalling from CPAN mess anything up if it was installed from rpm?
Avoid mixing packaging systems. The package should be entirely owned by one or the other. If you installed by RPM and want to switch to CPAN, first erase the RPM to purge the memory of its files from the RPM DB. Otherwise a future distro upgrade could clobber your CPAN-installed packages.
