I agree with others that the IPX is basically a decent
machine, about equivalent to the SPARCstation 2 in
performance. We had a couple for several years and
never had any significant problems with them. As for
pricing, again it depends on the full configuration.
Best thing to do there would probably be to shop around
a little and see what the going rate is. Two places
I've dealt with in the past are Solar Systems
(http://www.solarsys.com) and Rave (http://www.rave.com).
Both can sell you a used Sun with whatever you want
in it. Solar Systems has a special listed for an SS5/85
*clone* with 32MB, 1.05GB disk, TurboGX and 16" monitor
for 500 $US, and Rave has a Classic (not that much
faster than the IPX) for 995 $US, with 32MB, 16" monitor
and 535MB disk. Based on these, your 400 $CAN for an
IPX w/64MB probably isn't all that bad, especially if
it comes with something besides the 64MB of memory.
