Hi everyone! I'm having a really weird problem with NIS. I'm running an
NIS server on Redhat 5.2 Linux on an Intel machine as the NIS server.
I'm running a Sparcstation 1+ with the same version of Linux acting as an
NIS client. (not slave server).
When I boot the NIS server first, wait till it's up, then boot the NIS
client, everything is cool for a few days.
Then all of the sudden, after a few days, when logging into the NIS client,
I get this:
Red Hat Linux release 5.2 (Apollo)
Kernel 2.0.35 on a sparc
login: jhoffman
Password:
do_ypcall: clnt_call: RPC: Remote system error
do_ypcall: clnt_call: RPC: Remote system error
do_ypcall: clnt_call: RPC: Remote system error
And then it logs into the users login shell.
I've tried restarting all the NIS stuff in the following order:
client: ypbind stop
server: ypserv stop
server: nfs stop
server: portmap stop
Server: portmap start
Server: nfs start
Server: ypserv start
Client: ypbind start
I've even tried doing a ypinit -m on the server. The only thing that seems
to solve the problem is rebooting the server then restarting ypbind on the
client.
Has anyone come across this?
