Access does not not hangs, but sends NMI. That's how system crashes or hangs.

Do you have a documentary evidence about "assigned-addresses"?
What makes you think any addresses are assigned to unopeneed devices?
In Espresso many nodes do not have this property at all.
Besides, a missing PROM property is a bad excuse for panicing.
