In what sense unstable? If you compile them with a buggy compiler, then yes,
they will be. But if you compile them with a right compiler (such as the one
in RedHat updates), I'm not aware of any unstabilities.

vmlinux.o is a temporary object used when building final vmlinux, which is
in /usr/src/linux*/vmlinux.
