I understand that... but I have heard of problems with 2.2.8 and 2.2.9,
in that they are unstable.

But, I decided to try anyway..

2.2.9 doesn't seem to build the kernel correctly:

# cd /usr/src/linux/arch/sparc/boot/
# ls -al
total 2493
drwxr-xr-x 2 1046 1046 1024 Jun 10 00:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 9 1046 1046 1024 Apr 22 22:24 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 0 Jun 9 23:14 .depend
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 1251 Oct 27 1998 Makefile
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 43492 Jun 10 00:14 btfix.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 49322 Jun 10 00:14 btfix.s
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root bin 39120 Jun 10 00:05 btfixupprep
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 11458 Oct 4 1998 btfixupprep.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 101 3614 Mar 10 19:53 piggyback.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 root bin 2390187 Jun 10 00:14 vmlinux.o

vmlinux.o is not a valid kernel.... where is just plain vmlinux?
