Heya...

        One thing you might want to try is at the SILO prompt is 
SILO: linux init=/bin/sh

That way it won't try to go into a "run level" which asks you for your
root password (yes I've had this trouble as well when a machine took a
power hit and when coming back up fsck had some problems) you can then fix
the problems you have and reboot back into full user mode again.
