Going through something like this ourselves, the file name is dbsavefile.SSdb. I have taken a 7.1 DB and went straight to 9. We needed to bring it all up in parallel so we used the modelinggateway to just export the topology and import on the new hardware. Some of our landscapes have been mismanaged and are 15 years old so we're cleaning house.

In order to have an old database brought into your new install you need to (prior to install Spectrum) create the folder structure "Drive":\win32app\Spectrum\SS" and copy the database file in there (the file need to have a particular name - check docs) THEN install Spectrum. The install will detect the DB file and import the info from it. I have no idea which intermediary steps need to be taken from 8.0 to 9.2 so you better ask CA about that but I know for sure that every step will need you to install that version of Spectrum on top of the old database then save the database in the new format. I might be wrong - maybe CA found a workaround/solution for this (one year ago they had none) so you better check with them first. To my knowledge, there is no direct upgrade from V8.1 to 9.2 : this is because there are changes to the database structure needed and an interim upgrade is required. So, you should upgrade the database from 8.1 to 9.0, then make the jump from 9.0 to 9.2 The Spectrum Installation Guide (5136) describes this from page 35 and further and explains this in detail - I followed the process and it worked the first time on a Windows platform Kind regards Arnold Jeffrey Software Support Engineer Dimension Data South Africa From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 04 November 2010 02:36 PM To: spectrum Subject: [spectrum] Migration from 8.1 to clean 9.2 installation Dear list, Our customer has Spectrum 8.1.
