Hi,

Thank you all for answers. So, for SSDb and DDM I'm clear how to upgrade,
first copy to specific folder and then start new installation.
But what about reporting database and database that contains mibs?

I've read that when installing OneClick with Report Manager, you will be
prompted for option to import data from the old reporting database. Did
any of you done that?

Going through something like this ourselves, the file name is
dbsavefile.SSdb. I have taken a 7.1 DB and went straight to 9.
We needed to bring it all up in parallel so we used the modelinggateway to
just export the topology and import on the new hardware.
Some of our landscapes have been mismanaged and are 15 years old so we're
cleaning house.

Something you need to be aware to:
You can’t “migrate” the DB “later” after installation because SSdbload
will give you an error to tell you that you can’t load that database
because it was saved with a different version – that’s a major pain in the
#$%^ but so far there is no solution.
In order to have an old database brought into your new install you need to
(prior to install Spectrum) create the folder structure
“Drive”:\win32app\Spectrum\SS” and copy the database file in there (the
file need to have a particular name – check docs) THEN install Spectrum.
The install will detect the DB file and import the info from it.

I have no idea which intermediary steps need to be taken from 8.0 to 9.2
so you better ask CA about that but I know for sure that every step will
need you to install that version of Spectrum on top of the old database
then save the database in the new format.

I might be wrong – maybe CA found a workaround/solution for this (one year
ago they had none) so you better check with them first.
Good luck,

Regards,

If I may correct; and someone correct me if I am incorrect:
for v8.0 --> v8.1   -> v9.0 -> v9.2
Running a version that is earlier than 8.1, must upgrade to 8.1 first.
And so then your 2nd path is valid, skipping v9.0.
     Thanks, Ali

Hi,

I think that the way is

for v8.0:     -> v9.0 -> v9.2
for v8.1:     -> v9.2

Hi Ivana,

I have done this before.

To my knowledge, there is no direct upgrade from V8.1 to 9.2 : this is
because there are changes to the database structure needed and an interim
upgrade is required.
So, you should upgrade the database from 8.1 to 9.0, then make the jump
from 9.0 to 9.2

The Spectrum Installation Guide (5136) describes this from page 35 and
further and explains this in detail – I followed the process and it
worked the first time on a Windows platform

Kind regards

Dear list,

Our customer has Spectrum 8.1. Since we can get new machines, we plan to
install clean Spectrum 9.2 on a new machines (three machines, (SS),
(OC+RPM), (BOXI)) and then to migrate databases and customizations from
Spectrum 8.1 to clean Spectrum 9.2 installations.

Any of you had already done this? Experiences? I'm in a phase of
collecting migrate steps, so any help is very appreciated.

thank you,
ivana
