Calvin,

We are currently implementing CA VAIM to deploy/manage our systemEDGE agents to
our hosts. We are deploying this to Windows, Solaris, AIX, and Linux. If you
explore this option, we have found a couple of items...

1) VAIM allows you to install/manage agents but it doesn't allow you to quickly
restart an agent that is down on a managed host. (I believe this is an
enhancement request)
2) Agent deployments on UNIX/AIX/LINUX appear to want direct access to root on
the server which is a security violation in our environment. We are hoping
they can provide a way to login as non-privileged user and su to privileged
user during deployments in these environments.
3) We are deploying the 5.6 version of the agent. We have uncovered several
bugs that we are working to address with support.

Thanks,

Michael Zink

Subject: [spectrum] Deploying sysEdge agents

Hello everyone,

Quick question for the group: How do you upgrade/deploy a large number of
sysEdge agents?  Let's say you have 600 servers to upgrade from 4.3 to 5.1;
what method do you use to do it? I understand it would different for unix vs
windows. Are you utilizing your operating system's software distribution
capabilities or some other type of tool? Thanks in advance for your input.

Calvin
