All,
I just learned that you can stop Spectroserver or any app also in another way
if stopss.pl is not available using cmdC
For usage from $SPECROOT/bin
[spectrum@cabrssslab bin] ./cmdC -h
Usage: cmdC <hostname> <function id> <pid num>/<part name>/<outputfile>
<absolute path>
function ids:
1 = STOP_TICKET
2 = STOP_AUTO_TICKET
3 = PAUSE_TICKET
4 = CONTINUE_TICKET
5 = REQUEST_TICKET_OUTPUT
6 = GET_ALL_ACTIVE_TICKETS
7 = GET_TICKET_BY_PID
8 = GET_TICKET_BY_PART
9 = GET_INSTALL_TICKET_BY_PART
10 = GET_ALL_INSTALL_TICKETS
11 = ATTACH_TICKET_TO_PROCESS
666 = KILL_ALL_ACTIVE_TICKETS_AND_EXIT
999 = RESTART_PROCESSD
To stop SS on the server using partname( as defined in idb file) run the
following command.
[spectrum@cabrssslab bin] ./cmdC cabrssslab 1 SS

stopss only available on Solaris/Linux, right? not on windows.
on windows, it is suggested to increase registry key "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
from default 20 seconds to something more appropriate to give SS enough time to
shut down when system is shut down. 20 sec. may not be enough because processd
waits for all other sub-processes to shut down before it shuts down completely.
you will risk db corruption if SS is shut abnormally with system shut down.
processd is a process launching and tracking daemon - and uses include:
- starts processes when requested by application
- start processes automatically at system boot up
- automatically restart critical processes is they shuts down
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank
you.
Cheers, Ali

Augustus,
$SPECROOT/bin has stopss.pl script which you can use for graceful shutting down
SS and Archive Manager.
Hope this helps,

Subject: [spectrum] SpectroServer automated shutdown - possible?
All,
It has been a long time since I ask a question. A recent question about
automation for Spectrum shutdowns was asked. My learning says to shutdown
Spectrum by its Control Panel (push the button). Itself then closes databases
and disconnects the people connected to it.
However, someone asked if something can be automatically build to shutdown it
and close everything. I know that Control Panel, Spectrum, and everything else
is controlled by ProcessD. If I stop that using a script or trigger it to stop
Spectrum before server turns off, can database get corrupt?
Also, I read somewhere that cmdC can turn off Spectrum. Is that possible
instead of ProcessD shutdown?
Please help. Spectrum Version = 9.1.x
Thank you.
Cheers!
Augustus
