Hi all, I was wondering if anyone is running SPECTRUM in an ZFS environment on Solaris. I have migrated from dedicated Sun Fire V240 and V440 machines onto LDOMs on Oracle T4-1 servers recently and exprerience huge performance issues, mostly on my console (when SPECTRUM is running, Telnet
sessions tend to be nasty in regards to response times), with CLI scripts and Locater searches. Everything else is running as fast as always. I have granted my primary SS 12 GB of memory and 12 virtual CPUs. It cannot be a question of too little CPU power as my 12 CPUs virtually do nothing. I know, SS is a single thread application, but not even the CPU it uses grows more than 2 percent in usage. I haven't seen two-digit usage values so far. What I have seen is that my memory is consumed up to 95 percent, due to my uncustomized ZFS cache settings. ZFS grabs nearly all memory and uses it as cache. My file system itself is a LDOM owned pool in a flat file that resided on a RAID-10-Pool on my T4 box. Does my ZFS caching and huge DDM activities struggle for "hard drive" superiority? Does my server need to swap because ZFS cannot free memory as fast as a SPECTRUM process needs it? I think ZFS is a problem since a Perfomance View Health Report (which by the way says my server is helplessly busy) states 58 percent disk usage polls are "over critical value" and I have a current average disk utilization of 71 percent. My utilization graph on the Disk tab looks like a cardio graph with amplitudes at 100 percent on a more than regular basis. I am aware there are ways to optimize ZFS caching. I have found actual best practice documents from Oracle (for an Oracle database environment, that is), so I guess there *are* applications that might need some optimization work on ZFS side. Can anyone confirm this?
