Hi,

I've found a way to do this and been using it for over a year. To be used in a
network where Spectrum doesn't monitor workstations but only servers, switches,
and other Infrastructure elements etc. Here it is:

1) Create a Global Collection, name it "Infrastructure_Ports", with search
options like:
    - Model Class Equal To "Port"
    - Link Condition Not Equal To "Unknown"
    - Port Type Equal To "ethernet"

(As Spectrum is aware of and polling the device connected to the port, it
creates a Link Condition for the port)

2) Create another Global Collection, naming it "Workstation_Ports", with search
options:
    - Model Class Equal To "Port"
    - Link Condition Equal To "Unknown"
    - Port Type Equal To "ethernet"

(As Spectrum is not aware of the device connected to the port, Link
Condition will remain "Unknown")

I'd suggest settig the update interval for both Global Collections to 24 hours,
to prevent a slowing down of the SpectroSERVER

3) Then create two policies:

    - a policy for setting GeneratePortStatusAlarms (0x12a54) to "false" on
"Workstation_Ports" Global Collection

    - a policy for setting GeneratePortStatusAlarms (0x12a54) to "true" on
"Infrastructure_Ports" Global Collection

This way, we get port alarms only for the ports connected to the devices we've
modeled on Spectrum

Konu: [spectrum] Not interested in Port-down alarms where Servers are connected

Hi,

I know we had this in the past but did not find my notes on that. Here is the
challenge:

Many many switches and routers in the Landscape which produce link-down alarms
if the connected server on a switch-port is going down. As we are running the
network, we are not interested if the server guys are playing around with the
servers and would like to not getting a link-down alarm.

Any hints?

Kind regards,
