If you mean cvsup your FreeBSD OS source, I'd hang fire and try this first (which might be what you actually meant!): Do an anonymous CVS checkout of the speedtouch tree and build and install as normal. Shutdown your BSD box and unplug the manta for 30 seconds. If you unplug without killing modem_run you might get a panicked BSD box! Power up.
