modem_run opens a usb endpoint to check it get the activation command
and then closes it once its done (or does it just exit). If it goes down
cleanly surely modem_run could try and open it again if it was run a
second time to see if anything was running?

It seems stable enough for the time being, the USB rarely dies
gracefully anyway so I always reboot when the link goes down (its a
router so it doesn't matter, apart from hurting my pride :-)
