Hi, I have been using this driver on OpenBSD for many months, and found it to be very reliable. I have come across just one problem and I would very much appreciate any help that you can give me with it.
The problem is that these is no way to reset the modem when the line hangs other than rebooting the system or unplugging the device (after modem_run and pppoa2 are stopped). I am running OpenBSD 3.2 BASE with the CVS_19_11_2002 release of the driver. This is where I've got to so far: When the ADSL line hangs the modem needs to be completely reset. This can be done by unplugging it and re-plugging, or by rebooting. Under Linux it is possible to reset the USB bus by unloading and reloading the relevant kernel modules. As far as I am aware this is not possible under *BSD. Under Windows, the alcatel driver appears to be able to reset the usb port/modem and re-download the firmware. The best solution would be to reset the usb port/modem so that other usb devices are not affected. Failing that the entire usb sub-system could be reset. I would attempt to write a utility to do this myself, but I am only just starting out with OpenBSD (let alone USB), and finding it hard to know where to start. If anyone can offer me any guidance that would be very useful. I can see from the list that I am not the only one having this sort of problem, so I hope that such a utility would be useful. Thanks, Nick Forbes. ___________________________________________________________ VirusChecked for Citigate Marchcom by the Incepta Group plc ___________________________________________________________ Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se dsinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe
