well... the configuration file of sphinx has not been modified, and the installation is local to my account, i.e. it is installed in /home/ myself/usr/local/ So, the second idea refers to something weird in the configuration of docutils that come with ubuntu. To check in that direction I have downloaded the latest docutils package, rst2latex (Docutils 0.7 [snapshot 2010-04-03, r6302], Python 2.6.4, on linux2) Well, the problem remains...
