Bill,
Does this Spitfire have an O.D. trans? The O.D. trans on a spitfire
does not have a seal per say on the input shaft of the trans. It does have a
"scroll seal" which is like a reverse thread around the shaft that causes
any oil riding up the shaft to return to the inside of the trans,as long as
the shaft is turning. SO if you do have an O.D. trans. you do not have to do
anything except top up the trans,and keep the nose up when parking on a
hill.
Hope this is your only problem
