I doubt that the presence or lack of OD has
anything to do with it.  I think all the transmissions older
than a certain date had the scroll.

Actually, the seal is really part of the bellhousing, not
the transmission.  So, maybe you could upgrade an older seal-less
transmission by swapping in a newer bellhousing.  Since
the bellhousing is probably the most indestructible part of the
car, they must be pretty easy to find in junkyards.

Meanwhile, avoid parking your Spit in San Franscisco!
