I have a large-size grease fitting (with a pipe thread) that "almost" fits into the 
hole.
I remove the plug, screw in the grease fitting (not too tight), and grease it up.
Then I put the plug back.

I guess you could also use a grease gun with a cone-shaped rubber tip.
