We really don't know. I do know that it spends most of its time idling (the "doodle-deedle" sound as I like to call it) and every once in a while breaks away from that to send data. I also know that the signals on the various frequencies are never of equal strength here. I suspect that, if the signals on the various frequencies emanate from the same location and are of about the same power level, that they are from beams pointed in different directions. There is a song done by Joe Walsh that has a melody which sounds somewhat similar to the XSL notes. I've often wondered if it was patterned after that. Joe is a radio amateur, WB6ACU.
