Wow, the AHJs are the problem??? :)
And yes, all the GC's say we don't have all this "hassle" when we use your
competitors (sans shaft spkrs).
Same concept, different specifics were hitting us.
Competitor installing grocery store as light hazard.
Another grocery store had CPVC in sales area, below the ceiling
(yes, featured in FPC "What's Wrong")
And best of all, 3 story light hazard office building with a 13D tank and
pump- even tho the city main was adjacent, tap fees were cheap, and supply
strong.

Rather than rant and rave amongst we compliant contractors, we elected to
present a series of educational programs for the AHJs. By educating them on
what is right and wong, they can take their new-found knowledge and properly
enforce the code.

I often think how my rationalization for breaking the code would sound when
offered as a defense whilst facing a widow's attorney in court. TLV, you can
take credit for that mindset you taught me! But imagine having to say "well,
everyone else leaves them out, too" in front of a judge with your financial
future in his hands.

There's been numerous items when we've been told we're the only ones that
ask about it, worry about it, etc. We take it as a compliment, not that
we're missing a chance for profit improvement.

George,

The AHJ's are the problem!! They say "we want what code says" but they are
allowing other contractors to get away with it because the AHJ's do not know
what they are doing!

Here is the flip side of doing things right; if the AHJ is allowing other
contractors to get away with this type of stuff then we end up looking bad
to the GC's when we scream foul on their jobs when the electrical contractor
hits them with the shunt trip change order and the GC did not have to do
provide on previous jobs due to non-compliant contractors.

And BTW, we are not infallible and have our own shortcomings as well so I am
not trying to be "holier than thou" so to speak, but I appreciate the kind
comments.
