Nah, just standard leather gloves. I am not aware of the apron, but a face shield comes to mind as well..

I don't get soaked anymore, we use remote reading hosemonsters or digital flowmeters. This time of year, hosemonsters are down in the bottom of a catch basin, no water anywhere except for rolling hose leakage. I've gotten zapped a few times. I got a nice industrial lead set for my fluke meters and that helps. Are the leathers like a welder's apron? I'm shopping for one. I figure they were required somewhere as a minimum. My father taught me about the gloves and a nice rubber mat to stand on many years ago. Mainly, if the gloves (rubber) somehow had a pinhole, they were no good. It was all kinda amusing to me, since I normally was soaked from taking readings with the pitot just prior to the VAC/AMP readings. With the readings now available on the controller, this should eventually work out of the system. I do know from Navy days that the electricians used a grounding probe to be sure capacitors were fully discharged before entering a panel. I do not remember any capacitors in the panels, but there may be depending on motor type. The building inspector was leading me to believe I would need to buy protective clothing and grounding equipment. The was I understood it was like a welders vest with cuffs and heavy gloves, all grounded. It was a busy time, water was flowing, it was 8 degrees out and everyone was cold but he suggested I look into it. I didn't get the impression it was a local requirement and he did say they just finished additional OSHA training. Our inspectors do get a lot of schooling here. I'll email him and ask him to elaborate and post what he tells me. I know he said he was authorized to stop me, the only safety equipment I was wearing at the time was a hardhat. OHSA has no new electrical requirements per se; however, OHSA does expect the use of consensus standards to help in the selection of the best method to achieve compliance with the OSHA regulations and therefore; reference NFPA 70E. http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.show_document?p_table=INTERPRETATION S&p_id=25540 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tom Duross Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2007 6:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: regarding fire pumps A couple of things to share.. FM has issued a recall on woods couplings and are requesting they be replaced. I did a test the other day with FM and he noted the woods and told me he'd send me the info. I've also been told, but can't confirm there are new OSHA reg's on entering a motor contoller. I was told, a couple of times, that there are new training courses and apparell required. I guess this means taking voltage and current readings. Anyone know more about this?
