Thanks for the feed-back & comments. I have improved the procedure, as a more complete description as follows. I'm sharing for those who might need in future.
Post Indicator Valve (PIV) Spring Test Frequency : Annual (1) Purpose : Ensuring normally open position and closing performance of PIV's Procedure : - Using the special wrench, operate the PIV, through its full range of operation (i.e. fully open to fully closed) and return to its normal position. - Observe that the position of the valve is shown exactly by the Position Indicator. - Open the PIV until spring or torsion is felt in the rod, indicating that the rod has not become detached from the valve. - If the normal position is OPEN, back-off the PIV one-quarter turn from the fully open position to prevent jamming. - If the normal position is CLOSED, close the PIV tightly. - Leave it at its normal position and tamper with keylock. - If any discrepancy is observed, report to the Maintenance Dept. For Corrective Action. Record Keeping : - Write down (for each PIV) * the date test perfomed, * any discrepancy (such as jamming, excessive tightness, loose operation, mismatching of the Position Indicator, etc.) observed and whom/when the problem is reported to, * confirm that spring or torsion is felt in the rod, when fully opened, * at which position the PIV is left, * confirm that PIV is tampered. (1) For monthly, same procedure applies, except having the valve going through it full range of operation. Kind Rgds. I HIT THE WRONG KEY IN ERROR. I'LL TRY TO BE MORE CAREFUL ON THIS ONE....... In my previous life and association with FM Global, a "spring check" operation is done on a MONTHLY basis for ALL NORMALLY OPEN PIVs. The procedure you have described in for an annual turn down of normally open PIVs. The monthly spring check would consist of all the operations you have indicated, EXCEPT for having the valve going through its full range of operation. We were required by FM Global to do this on a monthly basis, and document the operations for their inspec-tion reviews. Unless dire situations existed, were never allowed to deviate from this. Hope this helps.
